- Dr. Arabinda Sen
Dr. Arabinda Sen is a prominent name in the tea industries of both India and Bangladesh. He
earned his Ph.D. in Soil and Water Management from the Indian Council of Agricultural
Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Following the completion of his doctoral studies, Dr. Sen joined
the Tea Research Association (TRA), the world’s oldest and
largest tea research institute, founded in 1911 in Jorhat, Assam,
India. He actively contributed to the research of various aspects
of tea cultivation at TRA from 1979 to 1988.
In addition to his work at TRA, Dr. Sen received specialized
training in fertilizer management, nutrition, and advanced soil
testing laboratory equipment at Reading University, UK (1985)
and Stoller Enterprises, USA (1986).
Dr. Sen later joined Tata Tea Limited, the largest tea company
in India, where he played a key role in the company’s operations
until 1992. He then transitioned into consultancy, offering his
expertise to tea estates across India. Notably,

he worked with 18
tea estates in Assam Frontier, managing the production of
approximately 28 million kilograms of tea from 2010 to 2013.
During this period, he also collaborated with James Warren Tea Limited.
From 2004, Dr. Sen worked with Finlay Tea Company Limited (Consolidated Tea & Plantation
Limited), the largest tea producer in Bangladesh, managing 17 tea estates that collectively
produced 16 million kilograms of tea.
Since 2021, Dr. Sen has been working with Assam Company Limited, overseeing 14 tea estates,
as well as 6 proprietary tea estates across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Cachar,
with an annual production of 2.7 million kilograms (CTC/Orthodox). He is currently involved
with 36 tea estates in both India and Bangladesh.
Dr. Sen is widely recognized for his extensive knowledge of tea plantation management, pest and
disease control, in depth planning and establishment of new tea plantations etc. His expertise in
tea pruning has led to significant crop enhancement. Additionally, he is highly regarded as one of
the leading fertilizer planners in the tea industry and possesses comprehensive knowledge of
water management, including dam and reservoir operations
