Mohammad Musa is a seasoned tea planter and engineer with over 33 years of extensive experience in the tea industry. He began his distinguished career in January 1991 with James Finlay PLC Limited (Finlay Tea), the largest tea company in Bangladesh, following his engineering degree from a U.S. university. Over the span of his 32-year tenure at Finlay Tea, Musa made significant contributions to both tea plantation management and tea manufacturing.
His expertise in engineering and tea production saw him take on a variety of roles, ultimately leading the engineering department, where he specialized in tea manufacturing/ processes and machinery. One of his major accomplishments was the design and establishment of a 4-million-tea-packaging factory, which continues to operate successfully. Musa also played a key role in modernizing several of tea factories for face-lifting as well as for improving environmental condition for optimizing efficiency and product quality.
Musa’s impact extended beyond factory management. His work in green tea production, optimizing irrigation systems, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices was instrumental in increasing company yields. He further honed his skills by completing specialized training in rubber plantation and processing from the Malaysian Rubber Board, in addition to a Post Graduate Diploma in Tea Management, awarded by the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) in collaboration with the Tea Board of Bangladesh.
His leadership was also evident in his role as Chair of the Health, Hygiene & Safety Committee at Finlay Tea, where he ensured that high operational standards were upheld across all company divisions. Additionally, Musa contributed to various committees, including those focused on recruitment, promotion, and procurement, all of which helped shape the company’s continued success.
Musa’s expertise and leadership in the industry have earned him international recognition. He was invited to present at Inter-Country Plantation Meetings in Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, where his insights on operational standards and quality control practices left a lasting impact.
In August 2022, Musa joined the National Tea Company Limited (NTC), the largest government and public-shareholder-owned tea company in Bangladesh, initially as Deputy Managing Director and later as Managing Director. During his time at NTC, he implemented innovative nursery practices, improved drainage systems, and pioneered winter planting initiatives, all of which significantly enhanced agricultural productivity.
Today, Mohammad Musa is widely respected as an authority in the tea industry. He remains well-connected with tea sectors in India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Kenya, and Nepal’s Himalayan region. His deep knowledge and extensive network position him uniquely to source premium teas tailored to the specific preferences and requirements of global clients.
